The student can choose to start with PathwayConnect or Certificates & Degrees. There are significant differences depending on where you start:

 

Starting with PathwayConnect first means different eligibility requirements and is a reduced cost per credit* ($75/credit as of 6/2020). It requires a full year of PathwayConnect before starting traditional coursework at BYUI or one of the other partnered schools. At the end of this year, the student will have earned a Certificate that will be applicable towards their degree.

 

After successfully completing PathwayConnect, students may apply their course credits toward a BYU-Idaho online degree at the same reduced cost. They may now continue on to the Certificates & Degrees path.

 

Starting with Certificates & Degrees without going through PathwayConnect first, has more traditional BYUI entrance requirements but the cost is higher than if the student completes PathwayConnect first ($128/credit as of 6/2020). This may be more appropriate for a student that very recently left school in good standing and is ready to pick up where they left off.

 

Other differences between starting with PathwayConnect and starting with Certificates & Degrees:

  • PathwayConnect meets each week in a Gathering with students that are going through the same courses to provide support, leadership growth, and friendship. This is the “glue” that helps students stay connected, learn from one another, and have a support group to lean on. 

  • Eligibility

    • Be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or have a close tie to the Church

    • Be at least 17 years old (with a high school diploma or equivalent) or over age 19 (with or without a high school diploma or equivalent)

    • Attend weekly gatherings during PathwayConnect (one full year)

    • Strive to live by the CES Honor Code

    • Be capable of entry level college academic work

    • Have daily access to a computer with high-speed internet and webcam/video chat capabilities
